Creating ISO Image in Sabayon Linux

Creating an ISO image file using mkisofs

First copy the files you want to backup to a directory.

sabayonx86 script # mkdir backmeup

sabayonx86 script # cp -p *.mp3 backmeup/

In this example, I will backup my mp3 songs. Now type the following command to make an iso file:

sabayonx86 script # mkisofs -r -o mymp3.iso backmeup/

Unknown file type (unallocated) backmeup/.. – ignoring and continuing.

Total translation table size: 0

Total rockridge attributes bytes: 364

Total directory bytes: 530

Path table size(bytes): 10

Max brk space used 21000

2548 extents written (4 MB)

Now burn the iso image file by typing :

sabayonx86 script # cdrecord -v -eject dev=3,0,0 mymp3.iso

cdrecord: No write mode specified.

cdrecord: Asuming -tao mode.

cdrecord: Future versions of cdrecord may have different drive dependent defaults.

Check that the files are copied to the disc. Mount the CD-RW by typing:

sabayonx86 script # mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /media/cdrw

mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

Look into the directory /media/cdrw

sabayonx86 script # cd /media/cdrw

sabayonx86 cdrw # ls

Yes the files have been copied.

Note: To create an ISO file type:

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/cdrom_image.iso
