Running ftp server as Internet Superserver

Stop proftpd :

cd /etc/init.d

./proftpd stop

Then go to the xinetd script located in /etc/init.d directory

[root@localhost etc]# cd /etc/init.d

[root@localhost init.d]# ls xinetd*

xinetd*

[root@localhost init.d]# ./xinetd

Usage: ./xinetd {start|stop|restart|reload|condrestart|condreload|status}

[root@localhost init.d]# ./xinetd start

Starting xinetd                                                 [  OK  ]

[root@localhost init.d]# ps -ef|grep xinetd

root     31353     1  0 13:44 ?        00:00:00 xinetd -stayalive -reuse -pidfile /var/run/xinetd.pid

 

You will also have to edit the /etc/xinetd.d/proftp-xinetd file

 

[root@localhost xinetd.d]# vi proftpd-xinetd

 

edit this line

        disable                 = no

Remember that you have to restart the xinetd process

 

[root@localhost init.d]# ./xinetd restart

Stopping xinetd                                                 [  OK  ]

Starting xinetd                                                 [  OK  ]
