Exploring minicom in Dreamlinux 2.2

Minicom is used to terminal into a router via serial port to configure, the router settings.

To start off, install minicom.

root@mars:~# apt-get install minicom

After installation, proceed to configure minicom, by typing:

root@mars:~# minicom -o

In minicom, press ctrl A, Z to go to minicom main menu.

Then press o to configure

Go to Serial port setup

Select A to set the Serial Device to /dev/ttyS0

Then select E to change the speed settings. Choose C to select speed of 9600 bps 8 parity bits and 1 stop bit.

Select save as, and save the configuration as any name which is find suitable for example in my case it’s cisco_portsmouth,

To terminal into the router, you need a serial cable which connects at the back of your workstation to the serial port of the router.

Then type:

root@mars:~# minicom -s cisco_portsmouth

Port /dev/ttyS0

Press CTRL-A Z for help on special keys

The above output shows that you have successfully terminal into the router. Let run some Cisco IOS command.

Checking the FastEthernet0 network settings:
